Braces: Metal vs. Ceramic

You aren’t just limited to metal brackets anymore. You can choose between metal OR ceramic- BUT what’s the difference? What makes one better than the other? Lets look at the pros and cons of each.

Metal Braces: The good & the bad

Other forms of braces have gained popularity over time, but metal brackets remain the most used (and cheapest!) option.

Pros Cons

Metal braces are strong and durable Can be painful

The don’t discolour like ceramic braces Harder to clean

Cheapest option Most noticeable form of braces

Ceramic Braces: The good & the bad

Until not too long ago, braces were mostly for kids. But now more adults are getting them. These days orthodontic society members say that they are seeing an increase in patients who are adults. This is probably because it’s easier to get clear braces than it used to be and (maybe) more people want them since they don’t have metal in their mouth.

Pros Cons

Harder to notice (more aesthetically pleasing) Pricey

More comfortable than metal brackets Not as effective

(in extreme cases)

When it comes to choosing between metal and ceramic braces, the best option will depend on your situation. You will want to talk with a team member about your treatment options and we will help you make the best possible choice to achieve your dream smile!
